"Investment in Heritage Conservation is an Investment in Skilled Trades."

Human Resources Issues

About 128,000 heritage homes in Canada need maintenance, repairs or restoration, but there aren’t enough skilled tradespeople to do it. As well, another 3% of older buildings are in danger from neglect and 11% are under redevelopment pressures.

Unless ACTION is taken, more of Canada’s built heritage will be lost!

Who will help save threatened heritage buildings?

  • • Carpenters and stonemasons trained in heritage conservation skills.

  • • Architects and planners sensitive to reusing older buildings.

  • • Educational institutions willing to provide more heritage courses.

  • • Investors who understand the $$$ value of rehabilitation over new construction.

  • • Homeowners who demand skilled restorers over renovators.
